The FCA is strongly considering the return of Ram Rampage as the mid-size truck. However, after the major update on the flagship Ram 1500 model, season after next will bring more changes for the heavy-duty segment. The 2020 Ram HD is heading to the new generation. Big trucks Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 will come to the fifth season with many upgrades. We are sure of this since the first spy shots are already available.
The debut of the heavy-duty segment trucks we can see already early in 2019. However, fans will have to wait until the second part of the season to start to purchase trucks. However, the company is going to launch the new models in the light-duty segment, so there will be more options.
2020 Ram HD Changes
Test mules are showing few changes, although heavy camouflage is hiding most of the body. Nevertheless, we can also take a look at Ram 1500 to see what’s coming for the heavy-duty segment. For example, these covers can’t hide LED taillights. The similarity with the new 2019 Ram 1500 is obvious. Furthermore, there are the same blind-spot monitors on rear-view mirrors. Other details about 2020 Ram HD are still unknown. Also, the company is still quiet about it. There are no big announcements at all.
2020 Ram HD Lineup
The 2020 Ram HD class will feature again 2500 and 3500 models. Ram will respond to light-duty truck challenges from other companies with new 4500 and 5500 versions. Whatsoever, the heavy-duty segment will bring some options to buyers. First of all, Ram is always there with a lot of trim levels. Current lineup brings 7 trucks for Ram 2500 and 6 trucks for Ram 3500. The company is going to revisit the lineup and decide upon trim levels. Since the HD series is going into a new generation, big changes are possible. However, Ram is hiding these details and it will be hard to unveil the lineup before the debut.
2020 Ram HD Options
Besides trim levels, the 2020 Ram HD will have plenty of other options for the new generation. But, let’s start from the cabin. Regular Cab, Crew Cab, and Mega Cab are the current lineup. Since the Ram 1500 offers pretty much the same options, the heavy-duty segment will be the same as well. Then, we have a bed configuration. Short and long box are in the mix. Sizes will remain the same, with the extended bed being 8-feet long, and the shorter on 6.4-feet. Drive modes are 4×2 and 4×4, while the upcoming 2020 Ram HD will present new paintjobs.
2020 Ram HD Specs and Towing Capacity
Although the 2020 Ram HD is heading toward the new-generation, its engines will remain the same. Small updates are leading to better performance. However, no big gap should happen. So, the smaller, 2020 Ram 2500HD will continue to use 6.7-liter Cummins diesel unit, as well as its bigger sibling. However, for 2020 Ram 3500HD, the turbodiesel powertrain will be able to create 930 lb-ft of torque. It will boost towing capacity, which is now going over 31,000 pounds.
Heavy-duty trucks will also get petrol units. The base one is a 5.7-liter V-8. However, the bigger truck is not offering it, and it is questionable for Ram 2500HD. A 6.4-liter V-8 is coming sure for all 2020 Ram HD models.
2020 Ram HD Release Date
We could see the 2020 Ram HD debut already this year. However, it is not likely that FCA will rush to present the new generation at a car show in Los Angeles. Instead, the sights are set for the larger stage in Detroit. However, the big premiere is not going to unveil all. Many details will follow and the complete image will come with dealership appearance of 2020 Ram 2500HD and 2020 Ram 3500HD in the second half of 2019.
