General Motors produced a sporty and luxurious truck before. Ever since the Escalade EXT was discontinued in 2013, its fans are asking about the comeback. Well, it seems now is the perfect moment. GM is making its big SUVs more truck-based with independent rear suspension. That also gives us hopes in return of 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT. First of all, there are other big vehicles the truck could be based on. Of course, Cadillac Escalade SUV is the first of all. It will probably get the IRS as well as Chevy Suburban and Tahoe. Also, the truck could get shades from the new Escala concept.
Of course, other models from GM’s lineup could help. Well, the company already offers a premium truck – GMC Canyon Denali and Sierra 1500 Denali. However, the new 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT is not going to use a ladder frame as the platform. A unibody architecture will make the EXT totally different from its siblings. However, we can’t expect the same vehicle, although some similarities will be very clear.
2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT Specs
The major question is – what will power the 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT? We can predict few options, but it is up to engineers to give a final word. So, all the following details are speculations. But, be sure that one of the mentioned options will be under the hood of the premium pickup.
Cadillac Escalade SUV is using only one drivetrain. It is the largest one in GM’s fleet. A 6.2-liter V8 unit is capable to produce 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It is possible to combine it with either two- or four-wheel drive. With the new independent rear suspension the General Motors is developing, the upcoming truck will get few boosts. But, we will talk about it later. Now, let’s focus on other powertrain possibilities.
A 6.2-liter engine is only one of the drivetrains for Chevy Silverado 1500. Well, it is the largest one. But, the stablemate could borrow another unit to 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT. A 5.3-liter V8 engine can burst 355 hp and 383 lb-ft of torque. However, this unit is much fuel-friendlier. Another question is if the new premium EXT truck will use a six-speed automatic or a new 8-speed transmission.
2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT Diesel
Well, we can say it is unlikely to see a 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT with a V6 engine. Also, a hybrid is being developed, but very slow. So, no chance to see it either. Diesel could make a surprise appearance. Well, the new engine is a Duramax V6 unit. A 3.0-l engine is capable to develop 240 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. It will also boost a utility of the 2020 Escalade EXT Pickup. With it, the towing capacity will go over 10,000. Petrol units are not so capable to haul. What’s more, the turbodiesel powertrain is also consuming less fuel.
2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT Design
We are pretty sure that 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT will come with a familiar look. Well, it is not going to be similar to the last model with this name we saw in 2013. It will be now more like its SUV stablemate. At least the front fascia and the interior. Of course, cosmetic tuning will update it with grille and bumper modifications.
On the other hand, the back of the vehicle could look to borrow things from other siblings. GM recently launched a new six-way tailgate. Be sure the Multi-Pro Tailgate will be part of the offer for the 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT. What’s more, it could get more options for the upcoming premium truck.
A heavily packed truck will offer more features than any other premium models available in the truck segment. Large infotainment screen, leather seats, multi-functional steering wheel, seat heating and cooling, probably massage as well, are only a few features we will definitely see on the truck. Safety is going to be at the highest level. Also, buyers will be able to purchase few trim levels, similar to these the SUV is offering. Just for example, we could get Luxury, Premium Luxury, and Platinum trucks.
2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT Release Date and Competition
The new 2020 Cadillac Escalade EXT is not coming so soon. We could see this truck out in 2020. However, by then, we will know more about it. Be sure that some big car show will host its premiere. Until then, other companies are going to respond.
Well, the premium market is not so popular. Ford F-150 Limited is the most luxurious truck out there. GMC Sierra Denali is its major competitor. But, soon we will see more of these luxurious models. Mercedes-Benz X-Class is a beefed up version of Nissan Frontier. It is available in Australia, and it is just a matter of time when it will come to the US. BMW and Audi are about to follow its German rival. Lexus and Infiniti are premium branches of Japanese truckmakers Toyota and Nissan, to develop the vehicle for the same segment. So, the battle in the premium pickup segment will be interesting right from the start.
