2020 BMW Pickup Truck Price and Release date

The 2020 BMW Pickup Truck is another luxury pickup truck that could come out next season. We also have some hints about Audi and Lexus trucks. Mercedes-Benz could be the first one of this breed, with Nissan Navara based X-Class coming to the US also in 2020. But, all these rumors are not official, although companies are not rubbishing them off. So, there is a how to see the 2020 BMW Truck, at least as the concept.

One of the main reason why companies are not deciding to enter the luxury pickup market is unpredictable profit. Yes, trucks are the segment where companies earn the most. But, these are utility vehicles, while the premium segment shifts the direction of development and usage to another course. Otherwise, US truck makers would step into this market a long time ago. Sport and luxury trucks are not popular anymore and most of them are shut down for many years.

2020 BMW Pickup Truck Might Appear at the New Detroit Auto Show

That is the best solution for the Bavarian company. The NAIAS 2019 is the last time we see it in this form. From 2020 the show is going to happen in June, so companies can present their products outside. Also, BMW decided to skip 2019 year edition, so the German carmaker will definitely come back for the next show. As always, the North American International Auto Show is the main happening for tuck premieres. The 2020 BMW Pickup Truck could steal the show since no big changes are expected then.

2020 BMW Pickup Truck Specs

The engine of the new 2020 BMW Pickup Truck is still a mystery. Or there will be two options. Well, we doubt the truck is getting a diesel engine. But, let’s not rush. On the other hand, a petrol unit is certain. The new vehicle could use the same unit as the upcoming full-size X7 SUV. A 3.0-liter V6 can deliver 335 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque. As always, BMW adds a bit of power to its luxury models. When we compare it to existing pickups, the output is more performance-oriented. However, the utility is there also, with the new truck being able to tow around 6,000 pounds.  An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard.

2020 BMW Truck Diesel Engine

Well, the famous BMW diesel engines could take place under the hood as well. A 3.0-liter turbo unit, so-called “30d” seems to be the perfect unit for the upcoming truck. The vehicle will get 250 horsepower and it will make the 2020 BMW Pickup Truck very fast. With a top speed of 130 mph, it will be one of the fastest in the segment. Whatsoever, we are still waiting for Audi and Mercedes responses.

2020 BMW Pickup Truck Unibody or BoF platform?

Well, BMW’s SUVs are using unibody architecture. It is hard to believe that the German company is going to launch the new platform because of the 2020 BMW Pickup Truck. However, we can’t say no. But, let’s see the pros and cons of each concept.

The body on the frame is more expensive and vehicles that use the ladder frame can tow more. Well, the 2020 BMW Pickup Truck is going to be the premium vehicle which is not entering the race to be the best hauler. So, it is much more likely to see a unibody platform. First – it is less expensive. Second – there is no need to wait for development since one of the existing that Bavarian giant is using for X6 or X7 SUVs is suitable. Third – handling and maneuvering are much better with unibody, rather than BoF architecture. And finally, the 2020 BMW Pickup Truck is not going to tow too much, so one of the advantages is irrelevant for this vehicle.

What will 2020 BMW Pickup Truck Look Like?

We already mentioned X6 and X7 sport utility vehicles. But, we must go back to these models again. Since the second one is fresh for the 2019 season, we could see a lot of similarities between it and 2020 BMW Pickup. Well, the truck is not going to use the recipe some models used in the 60s, when trucks were cars with a bed. On the other hand, we can’t predict what will BMW deliver in a year or so, since there is nothing to compare the rear end with. Up front, we will definitely see the kidney grille and headlights design as for the SUV models.
