With the new Ram 1500 ready for next season, everyone expects from FCA to stop there. Surprise, surprise! The company is considering to launch heavy-duty models for the same season. Well, it is definitely smart to leave it for 2020, when the interest for half-ton pickup starts to fade. But, the 2019 Ram 2500 is going to join the lineup.
Well, the Ram is a leader in the segment. So, they can’t let Ford and Chevy dominate here with their new arrivals. We already wrote about F-250 and Chevrolet Silverado 2500 as direct competition in a heavy-duty segment. As its sibling from smaller class, the 2019 Ram 2500 is going to introduce some interesting features and details to make itself more popular among truckers.
2019 Ram 2500 spied
While the entire industry, fans, and experts were occupied with NAIAS 2018, where truck stole the show, Ram quietly tested the heavy-duty models. Spy shots are confirming that something is going on. Whatsoever, from what we could see, the 2019 Ram 2500 carries some similar parts to the current vehicle. Headlights and tailgate are not changed, although we expect these to suffer cosmetic touches. Ram could replace the old grille, according to these shots and shapes we can see through the camo.
2019 Ram 2500 release date
Spied last year, it is normal to expect the Ram 2500 as the 2019 year model. However, many experts are confident that the company is saving it for the next season. Well, it is possible, and test mules we saw could be the first trucks that are tested. This can also explain the old parts of the vehicle. Whatsoever, there are more enthusiasts that will say the truck is coming as the 2019 Ram 2500. It is easy to argue about that, but hard to prove the stance, since the company is not releasing official details about their HD segment.
2019 Ram 2500 engines
The new 2019 Ram 2500 will keep the existing powertrain lineup. Made for towing, only big units are present under the hood. So it will be with next truck. The base model is coming with a 5.7-liter V-8 powertrain. It is good for 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque. While there is a choice of two- or four-wheel drive, buyers of this truck will get only a six-speed automatic transmission.
The same options are coming with another petrol unit. It is a 6.4-liter Hemi engine that is delivering 410 horses and 430 lb-ft of torque. A detuned version of the powertrain serves in Mega cab configuration with 370 hp rating.
Last but not the least important is diesel unit. One engine- few configurations. A 6.7-liter powertrain pairs either automatic or manual transmission. The second one is exclusive to it. The engine also has a turbocharger. Nevertheless, depending on a choice of the gearbox, we can see 2019 Ram 2500 deliver either 660 lb-ft of torque with manual or 800 pound-feet with automatic. Well, its sibling Ram 3500 will launch the twisting power to 930 lb-ft.
2019 Ram 2500 trim levels and prices
Another advantage of the 2019 Ram 2500 will be its variety of trim levels. The base Tradesman will start from $33,000. The SLT version also belongs to this entry-level with modest equipment and the price still under $40k. Mid-range trim levels are Big Horn and Laramie, with notable features such as 18-inch wheels, 10-way power driver’s seat and bi-functional projector lamps.
Far-end models cost over $50,000. Power Wagon and Laramie Longhorn will bring many exclusive features. Nevertheless, these two are still no match to top of the class Limited trim. Huge 20-inch wheels, big rear badge, and advanced infotainment features are just a few details that make this version of 2019 Ram 2500 cost over $60,000. Well, the company will offer some extra packages, but most of these features are already included in the Limited truck.
