Trucks stole the most recent car show in Detroit. All the major companies presented their models there or just before the happening. Chevy started to present the next-gen Silverado already in 2017. And while everyone expected the response from Ford and the launch of F-150 diesel and Ranger, Ram stepped and took a part of the show. The new 2019 Ram 1500 will be the true competitor. With all major players heading into next season with new vehicles, it promises an interesting year for truckers.
The 2019 Ram 1500 might be the biggest surprise of all these pickups. The F-150 is still untouchable at the top. But, commercial appearance during Super Bowl is something that shows the intention of FCA. Furthermore, Ram 1500 will offer plenty of options. Cab and bed configurations, colors, trim levels, drive modes, engines… when we take all these major choices, we can build over 30 different Ram 1500 trucks.
2019 Ram 1500 engines
Petrol engines for the 2019 Ram 1500 are 3.6-liter for base models and 5.7-liter V-8 for upper trims.
The first one is available for the entry-level trims. The V-6 unit can deliver 306 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. An eight-speed transmission is automatic and sends power either to two or four wheels.
Before the V-6 appears, the 2019 Ram 1500 will use the 5.7-liter V-8 engine. The same Hemi unit is used by its predecessor. This unit can deliver 395 hp and 410 pound-feet. With it, Ram 1500 truck is losing on mileage. The pickup returns 18 mpg combined.
After the appearance of the 5.7-liter V-8 and 3.6-liter V-6, we will see the mild-hybrid as well. This system will use the second drivetrain as the conventional unit. A 48V battery adds around 90 lb-ft to total output. Also, the fuel economy will get a boost of few mpg.
After the release of Ford F-150 diesel, all carmakers are on alert. The 2019 Ram 1500 is ready for it. This truck already has a proven engine. It is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel with the output of 240 hp. This and torque level are on par with the competition. Well, the new F-150 Diesel can make 450 pound-feet, while Ram 1500 diesel creates 30 lb-ft less. Fuel economy and towing capacity will get a significant boost.
2019 Ram 1500 redesign
The highlight of the 2019 Ram 1500 will be interior. This truck has six trim levels, and all of them have different themes and details. Of course, top class models will bring the most luxurious parts, premium materials, and high-tech features. Together for all is simplified use of infotainment system. At the center of it is a 12-inch display.
The first thing we will notice on the 2019 Ram 1500 is the new grille. No more Dodge cross is on the front. This change leads to others, including headlights and bumper. Ram 1500 Rebel will present slightly different appearance. In the box, truckers can find a power outlet. The lift-assisted tailgate is available for now and split tailgate was spot on test mules.
