The 2019 GMC Sierra will start a new generation of this pickup truck, a close relative to Chevy Silverado. These two are very similar vehicles, but still different not to carry the same name. However, the new generation of Sierra 1500 will introduce many features and accessories. Among novelties, fans will get a diesel engine as the major refresh for the upcoming season.
Another pretty interesting model will be Denali truck. This performance-oriented pickup will be a rival to Ford Raptor vehicles. Whatsoever, it also comes with distinctive design outside and inside. At first, many would think the 2019 GMC Sierra is boring since it is “Silverado in the different shell”. However, after this review, they will change their mind.
2019 GMC Sierra vs Chevrolet Silverado
So, what exactly is the same about 2019 GMC Sierra and Chevy Silverado? First of all, these trucks are using same drivetrains. Well, the lineup is not copied from one to other. For example, pickups share 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter units. Sierra 1500 will use a 4.3-liter displacement in the next-gen truck, while Silverado drops it.
And what about differences? We already mentioned one of them. But, 2019 GMC Sierra will offer unique features, such as special tailgate and bed construction. Nevertheless, appearance is pretty much the same, and only true truckers will recognize which one is on the road. With Denali model there is no mistake, since Chevrolet is not offering such vehicle in its lineup.
2019 GMC Sierra drivetrains
The base truck is using a 4.3-liter EcoTec V-6 engine. This is the least powerful unit in the lineup for 2019 GMC Sierra. With 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque, there is no wonder why Silverado is not using it anymore. It is not so too much fuel-friendlier than its alternatives.
A 5.3-liter V-8 is bigger, more potent engine. It will provide 355 horses and 383 pound-feet of torque. At the same time, its fuel consumption is 19 mpg combined, which is just 2 mpg worse than with V-6. But, towing capacity raises to 10,000 pounds. A V-6 is also quite impressive with 7,600 lbs.
But, these two can’t match 12,500 pounds towing capacity of the 6.2-liter V-8 mill. This beast crunches 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It is not fuel friendly, but 2019 GMC Sierra with this unit is there to finish the work. And it will definitely do it successfully.
2019 GMC Sierra Diesel
Next season, the 2019 GMC Sierra will follow Ford F-150, Ram 1500, and Chevy Silverado. All class-leading half-ton trucks are coming with diesel drivetrains. Well, this is not a surprise, since Chevrolet will borrow the engine from its pickup. It is a 3.0-liter turbodiesel powertrain. Duramax and GMC are not coming out with details yet, but we can predict the output. For Chevy’s truck and 2019 GMC Sierra Diesel, this unit will provide 250 horsepower. This is on par with its competition. Torque level is also excellent, with 440 pound-feet coming out from the inline-six engine.
2019 GMC Sierra tailgate
The highlight of 2019 GMC Sierra design will be a tailgate. Regular models are getting a six-way tailgate. It is very useful for over-sized loads. Also, an adjustable bed can be used as a working station for a laptop.
2019 GMC Sierra release date
The only sure thing about 2019 GMC Sierra is that is coming in fall. The exact date is not set yet, but the truck will come after Chevy Silverado. The debut of Sierra 1500 came after its competitors. While all of them appeared until the end of January, GMC organized a special event on March 1. By then, the interest was not at the same level as it was while impressions from NAIAS 2018 were still fresh. However, fans of this truck won’t have a reason to worry about.
