It’s been a while since we are listening to rumors about diesel unit for the most famous Ford’s truck. Now, it is official. The 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel started something new, and the first impressions are encouraging. There is no doubt that the truck will meet the demands of its company. But, in future, no one can claim how will diesel units perform. With hybrid and electric vehicles, the emissions are cut radically, and the entire industry is becoming greener. Well, diesel and ecodiesel engines will hardly exist if the trend continues.
But, the example of 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel is showing us that truckers will always choose performance over nature. Sad, but true. However, the engine of the new truck is not going to respond to the power output of its petrol siblings. But, torque level is on par with much larger V-8 units.
2019 Ford F-150 Diesel engine
In the last couple of years, we could listen to rumors speaking of this truck. Now, when the 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel is a reality, we finally can rubbish all stories that don’t match the truth. A drivetrain for the pickup is a 3.0-liter PowerStroke. Fans maybe expected larger unit, developing more power. But, Ford decided to launch the unit with modest power output. On the other hand, better mileage and emission records will calm all critics.
So, the PowerStroke engine is good for 240 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque. These numbers are not final yet, but experts are pretty sure in this estimation. With such power, the 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel will be able to tow around 10,000 pounds. Also, its fuel economy will be much better than the base petrol unit is offering.
2019 Ford F-150 Diesel vs Ram 1500 Diesel vs Silverado 1500 Diesel
Three kings of the truck segment in the US will offer a diesel drivetrain as one of the options for next season. We already mentioned the PowerStroke unit for F-150. However, FCA was not late and the company launched Ram 1500 at the same time as Ford did with its truck. This pickup will carry the Cummins product under its hood. Same volume, same power, but slightly worse torque are highlights compared to 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel.
On the other hand, Silverado 1500 and Chevy are going into 2019 season with a Duramax powertrain. Again, power output is the same, displacement is 3.0-l, but twisting power is 10 pound-feet short from 250 lb-ft delivered by F-150.
2019 Ford F-150 Diesel trim levels and options
Well, the company didn’t release any further details about the 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel. But, the leaking info is providing details about trim levels and some options for a new truck. First of all, it is not going to come in XL and XLT trims. The first model with a diesel engine will be Lariat. King Ranch and Platinum package are also bringing this kind of engine.
Furthermore, the 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel is not going to offer the Regular cab configuration. The truck is available only with SuperCab and SuperCrew layouts.
2019 Ford F-150 Diesel release date and price
The 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel will arrive next season. We are still waiting for the model for 2018. Since we saw the premiere in Detroit, and it’s been a while, the truck could arrive at the 2019 year model. We doubt Ford will do it, but everything is possible. Even if it comes as the pickup for this season, the company will introduce it as a preview of a real deal with next year’s truck.
Since we expect 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel to appear with Lariat trim level, the price is definitely not going to be under $40,000. Petrol unit costs $41,000 and the new diesel could raise the price to $45,000. Top of the class Platinum edition could go up to $60,000.
