To keep up with competition, all carmakers must have constant improvements on their models. One of the main markets is of truck segment in USA, so it is understandable why companies are releasing new models every now and then. Because of that, we have heard that 2018 Ram 1500 is being prepared. It will be restyled, and new powertrain options should be introduced. Now, there are just rumors about new truck, but Ram is not denying it though.
2018 Ram 1500 engine
Powertrains of the 2018 Ram 1500 are being developed, and there will be few options on engine range and transmission also. Currently, there are three types of engine offered for Ram lineup. Entry models have 3.6-l V6, higher trims 5.7-l V8 HEMI, and there is also 3.0-l diesel unit. According to rumors, big 5.7-l HEMI unit is about to be kept, while engineers are considering replace of the base drivetrain. Another mentioned addition is Pentstar upgrade for entry level V6 powerplant, also called PUG. This system add more ponies to overall horsepower, improves mileage and torque level. Not only V6, but also 5.7-l V8 should get some boosts, and expected power could reach over 400 hp.
2018 Ram 1500 transmission
Current 6-speed gearboxes are about to be discontinued. New transmissions are prepared and there are rumors about 8-speed box to be standard. However, with a long time to go, we expect 2018 Ram 1500 with more than one transmission system. It could happen that 8-speed will be upgraded to gearbox with 10 gears. However, this depends on funds invested in development, since these works are pretty expensive. Nevertheless, transmission improvements brings mpg rate boost, which are one of the highlights of the vehicles, and every mile counts for pickup trucks.
2018 Ram 1500 release date and price
Release date of the 2018 Ram 1500 is expected during 2017. Exact part of the year is unknown, but truck should be ready before 2018. Since there are a lot of changes, price should be modified, and almost unpredictable too. But, to be competitive, it shouldn’t rise a lot. So, value will be increased, but not too much from $25,000 which is cost of entry level of 2016 lineup.
