The Santa Cruz was Hyundai’s concept which is about to be incarnated as a truck in 2017. So far, this company didn’t offer pickup in their lineup, so this is somehow special model. We don’t expect it to be the best, or to compete with top trucks, but 2017 Hyundai Santa Cruz will be a good start for Korean manufacturer. Another unpredictable thing is price of the Santa Cruz, since it can’t be compared with previous models, and only norm could be set by the price of competition values. We expect this truck to arrive late in 2016.

Platform of the upcoming truck was presented in Detroit earlier this year. Pickup vehicle segment haven’t had representative from Korea, and with 2017 Hyundai Santa Cruz new era begins. Although its look and function is to be truck, for first model, new vehicle is more of a car. Concept is very similar to the one used by Santa Fe. From available information, company has interesting strategy – to impress non-truck buyers, by mix of on and off road capabilities and functions of the Santa Cruz.

Styling is unique for 2017 Hyundai Santa Cruz. Vehicle has some similarities with Santa Fe and Genesis, but it is still original model. Cargo area is not huge, and it will have entrance from rear seats. On the concept of the truck we saw 21-inch alloy wheels, but production models get 18- or 19-inch wheels. Inside the cabin, 2017 Santa Cruz will be equipped with all standard equipment for Hyundai vehicles. That means it will be very similar to models made on same and similar platforms. Finally seating and control panel will be probably the same as for Santa Fe.

In the lack of information, one thing is sure – base models of 2017 Hyundai Santa Cruz are going to have front wheel drive system. Power distribution to all wheels is optional. That power should come from 2.4-l four-cylinder engine with 200 hp and 190 lb-ft of torque. There are also rumors about 2.0-l turbocharged diesel unit with greater output, and 2.2-l drivetrain for European market. Transmission box should be automated and with 6 speeds.
